M/T's Bone Yard

M/T's Bone Yard

This is a picture taken behind M/T's shop in Anaheim California. I studied this picture very close and have found five known and one possible known car. The enclosed trailer in the very right of the picture houses the Ford LSR Streamliner which was built and tested in 1967- 68. This car is now in the position of Danny Thompson who hopes someday to go for the record.

In the center of the picture is one of the two 1967 Indy cars M/T had at Indy. The car was a front engine front wheel drive with 4 wheel steering.

The car in the lower left side of the picture sitting on the trailer with a tarp over it is one of the 1963 Indy cars M/T had at Indy. I belive in 1963 M/T had built three new cars one being the "Harvey Aluminum Special" which had a titanium chassis.

And if you look very close directly beside the box on top of the 1963 Indy car you will see the edge of a body which I belive could be a Bonneville car named "The Pumpkin Seed" originally built and raced by Blake and then bought and altered by Mickey Thompson. I saw this car in 1993 in a warehouse in LA full of Micky Thompsons cars.

The next car which is hard to see, but laying on its side directly behind what I belive is "The Pumpkin Seed" is a tubular chassis which looks like another one of the 1963 Indy cars. The reason I think it is one of the 1963 Indy cars is because we have one of the chassis at our shop and it looks just like the one in the picture.

The last car in this picture is the Assault I a car M/T used for land speed records in 1960's. This car is partially behind the Indy car chassis just its nose and front wheel can be seen. This car has been restored and is in the Petersen Museum.

If anyone has any additional information about any of these cars we would like to add it to our web site. We feel there is a lot of people out there interested with one of the Biggest names in motor sports, a man who was the true King of SPEED. Having held over 600 National and International speed records there are few others who can say the same.
