Custom Chassis

|
We built this complete Chassis for a 1950 Plymouth Station Wagon body. The front and rear suspension is from a 1989 Corvette, the engine is a 1997 Camaro Z-28 (LT1). The only alteration to the body was a reshaped firewall to clear the cylinder heads. The floor was rebuilt to the stock configuration with a small reshaping of the spare tire well to clear the rear spring and make access to the electric fuel pump in the fuel tank. |

Below are pictures taken during the construction of this car. This car took 683 hours to build, we built the chassis, installed the engine, transmission and suspension, Wired the Electronic Fuel Injection and complete car, installed new gauges, remote controlled CD player, AC unit and drafted prints for the Stainless Steel fuel tank and "Be Cool" radiator to be built. The concept of this car was to make it look as original on the outside and inside as possible. The only external difference is the wider tires and two exhaust pipes. On the inside only the steering column is different. The original radio was sent out and converted to AM/FM. The old heater controls were converted to work the new AC unit and the original speaker grill in the dash was used as AC vents so nothing looks different than it did in 1950. We here at Thompson Motor Sports performed all the work on this car except for the radio, bending of the Stainless Steel Exhaust tubing, Stainless Steel Fuel Tank and paint /powder coating. |
