Dave MacDonald at Indy

Dave MacDonald of El Monte, California grins broadly after qualifying Mickey Thompson's Sears-Allstate Special in the middle of the 5th row (14th) for the 500 mile Memorial Day classic at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. MacDonald's four lap average was 151.464 mph.

 The car which is powered by the new Ford racing engine is the first streamliner ever to qualify at the speedway.

Mickey's second car was driven by Eddie Johnson who qualified at 152.90 mph putting him in the 24th starting position, he would go out on the 6th lap due to a fuel pump problem which gave him a 26th finish position.

 This was a bad year for Mickey Thompson as well as the Indy 500, There was a bad crash and Dave MacDonald was killed on the start of the first lap.
